FreeTube als Linux-Alternative zu Mozilla Firefox

Aktualisiert am 26. Oktober 2026

Unser Fazit

FreeTube is not a replacement for Mozilla Firefox. It is a lightweight YouTube client, not a full web browser. It will satisfy users who only need to watch YouTube without ads and want privacy, but it cannot handle general web browsing, extensions, or sync features that Firefox offers.

Was gleich funktioniert

Both are open‑source desktop applications
Both run on Linux
Both provide a user interface for media consumption
Both support dark mode
Both are available via Flathub
Both are actively maintained

Was anders ist

FreeTube only plays YouTube videos, Firefox is a full web browser
FreeTube lacks HTML/CSS/JS rendering engine for arbitrary sites
FreeTube has no extension/add‑on support, Firefox does
FreeTube cannot import/export bookmarks or passwords, Firefox can
FreeTube does not provide tab, history, or settings sync across devices, Firefox does

Ihre Mozilla Firefox-Dateien öffnen

FreeTube cannot open or import Firefox bookmarks, passwords, or profile files. If you need to migrate these, you must use Firefox’s export tools and then import into a compatible application (e.g., a password manager).

Von Mozilla Firefox zu FreeTube wechseln – Schritt für Schritt

1. In Firefox, open Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Export Bookmarks to HTML.
2. Save the exported .html file to a known location.
3. For passwords, open Firefox Settings > Privacy & Security > Logins and Passwords > Export Logins.
4. Use a password manager that can import the exported file, or keep the file for reference.
5. For extensions, note the list and install equivalents in your new browser if needed.
