Was ist Transmission?
Transmission has been a go-to BitTorrent client on Linux since 2005. It was built from the start to be lean and reliable, focusing on core torrent functions without bloat. Over the years, it’s matured into a stable, well-tested application used by default in many Linux distributions, including older Ubuntu releases.
It's ideal for users who want to download torrents without distractions. If you're not interested in plugins, chat features, or flashy visuals, and just want to add .torrent files or magnet links and go, Transmission fits quietly into your workflow. It’s especially popular on systems where resources matter, like older hardware or headless servers.
Compared to µTorrent, BitComet, or Vuze, Transmission feels minimal. Gone are the ads, bundled software, and complex tabs. What you get instead is a clean window with progress bars, speed graphs, and basic queue management. It doesn’t try to be everything — just a solid, secure torrent client that works.
Ideal für: Users who want a no-frills, reliable torrent client that stays out of the way.

If you're coming from µTorrent or Vuze, note that Transmission doesn’t include RSS feeds or built-in search — you’ll need external sites or tools for that. It handles .torrent files and magnet links just fine, but queues are simpler and lack fine-grained rules. Keyboard shortcuts are minimal; most interaction is through the GUI. For remote use, enable the web interface — it’s lightweight and works from any browser.
