About Linux Alternative
Linux Alternative has helped people move from Windows to Linux since 2014. Today it maps 242 Windows programs to 267 Linux applications through 554 comparisons.
The site is independent: we do not sell software and are not paid by the projects we list.
How we build and update the pages
- Facts come from public sources: Flathub (licenses, versions, screenshots, install statistics), Repology (distribution packages) and Wikipedia.
- Data is refreshed automatically every day; new releases appear on the updates page within hours.
- Descriptions and comparisons are drafted with the help of language models from those facts, then checked against them; we never publish prices, versions or statistics that do not come from a source.
- Rankings combine community votes with real usage data.
- Suggestions from visitors are verified before they are published.
