GwenView as a Linux alternative to ACDSee

Opening your ACDSee files

GwenView can open most standard image files that ACDSee can read, but it does not support ACDSee’s proprietary catalog or database files. Exporting to ACDSee formats is not available. If you need to migrate existing ACDSee catalogs, you will need to export images and metadata manually or use a third‑party tool.

Switching from ACDSee to GwenView, step by step

1. Export all photos from ACDSee to a common folder structure using the export feature. Save any metadata (EXIF/IPTC) you need in sidecar files or as embedded data. Open the exported images in GwenView and use its annotation tools if desired. Use GwenView’s file manager actions to organize photos into folders or rename them as needed. If you need tagging or rating, consider using an external tool like digiKam or darktable to add those tags before opening in GwenView. Keep a backup of your original ACDSee catalog in case you need to revert.
